Stan Gibson is an electrical engineer and founder of SolidMagnetics, an engineering platform focused on magnetic-component design automation for power electronics applications. His work spans power electronics, magnetic component design, electronic systems, product development, engineering automation, and manufacturable CAD development.

Through SolidMagnetics, he develops engineering guides, design calculators, and automated tools intended to help engineers move from electrical requirements through magnetic analysis and toward practical, manufacturable inductor and transformer designs.


Engineering Background

Stan has more than two decades of engineering experience spanning power electronics, electronic systems, research and development, product engineering, and advanced electrical design.

His engineering work has included power-supply development, high-reliability electronic systems, advanced automotive research and development, military vehicle electronics, motor-control and power-electronics applications, and commercial electronic product development.

Across these roles, his work has involved the practical engineering disciplines that surround magnetic-component design: electrical requirements, circuit analysis, component selection, thermal considerations, mechanical integration, CAD development, manufacturing constraints, testing, and system-level engineering.

About SolidMagnetics

SolidMagnetics was created to make magnetic-component design faster, more systematic, and more accessible to practicing engineers, researchers, designers, and students.

Magnetic design requires many interdependent decisions. Inductance, turns, core geometry, magnetic material, air gap, conductor size, winding arrangement, flux density, core loss, copper loss, temperature rise, EMI, mechanical fit, and manufacturability cannot be optimized independently.

SolidMagnetics combines engineering calculations, design guidance, and automation so that these relationships can be evaluated together rather than as isolated calculations.

The long-term objective is to provide an integrated engineering environment for designing inductors, transformers, and other magnetic components—from electrical requirements through analysis and eventually into manufacturable CAD geometry and engineering documentation.


Engineering Philosophy

Engineering tools should support engineering judgment—not replace it.

Equations and automated calculations are valuable, but a successful magnetic component must satisfy electrical, magnetic, thermal, mechanical, manufacturing, reliability, and cost requirements simultaneously.

SolidMagnetics technical content is therefore intended to explain not only the equations used in magnetic design, but also the assumptions, tradeoffs, limitations, and practical decisions behind them.

Automated design tools extend that process by allowing engineers to evaluate more candidate solutions and design tradeoffs than would normally be practical through manual calculation alone.
